My life has been shaped by the process of writing, recording and performing music, with our band Long For The Coast. For the past 20 years I have found that writing about personal experiences can be a healing and deeply meaningful experience. As a musician and integrative counsellor, holding therapeutic songwriting sessions is a real joy for me... Everyone has a story, and these sessions are a chance to explore your life's narrative from an empowered position. If you would like to, we can also create demo recordings of the songs that we write together. You don't need any experience of songwriting, or the ability to play a musical instrument - just bring yourself. These sessions are 1-1 and based at our home, in the beautiful town of Totnes. I am soon to begin hosting a monthly gathering called The Writers Club, where you and other songwriters can come to share your creative processes, gain inspiration and have accountability for creative goals and projects. These evenings will be cosy, warm-hearted, and also held at our home. A few times a year, those involved with therapeutic songwriting sessions and The Writers Club will have the opportunity to perform what they've been working on at a local music venue in the town...
Basically, you're gonna love it! It's self-expression - a space to think, feel and begin to heal... It's community - we all need space to grow, connect and share the journey... And, for those who want it to be, it's an invitation - a chance to be courageous; to get on stage and to wholeheartedly sing your story... |
Grief is kind of an inside job, but to mourn is to feel witnessed in our grief, and it's mourning that begins to heal the body. One role of the songwriter is to gather enough courage to be vulnerable in front of others. We find words for the things that many of us feel; words that can bring healing to ourselves and others when sat singing around a fire or stood up on stage.
